All surgeries are by appointment only. To make an appointment just call in or phone the surgery of your choice. You can also make appointments via the internet. If you would like to register for the internet service then just pop into one of our surgeries and ask at reception. Appointments are set at 10 minutes but if for some reason you need longer with a GP or nurse then the clinician can request this with reception.
When making your appointment you may find that the receptionist will ask you for a brief reason for your appointment. This is so that your appointment is booked appropriately. Some conditions or problems need longer than others and some conditions or problems are dealt with by specific clinicians. This is particularly important when making an appointment to see the practice nurse, phlebotomist and nurse practitioner. You can give personal as your appointment reason but please bear in mind that we ask for a reason to help you get the best care from your clinician. All staff are bound by the confidentiality act, including receptionists.
Kington Medical Practice ask that if you are unable to attend for your appointment, you inform us as soon as possible. This will enable your appointment to be offered to another patient if required. The number of patients that DNA (did not attend) for their appointment is high and as appointments can be limited we need as many as possible. When you cancel your appointment you can remake it at the same time if you wish.
These appointments are the appointments that are pre-bookable. They can be booked in advance. We aim to have at least 4 weeks of appointments on the computer system at any time so that you can book follow up appointments etc if required.
These appointments are available every day, morning and afternoon. We have a certain number of appointments for urgent on the day problems and a certain number of appointments that become available on the day. This means that if your complaint is urgent, you can always see a clinician. As well as these urgent appointments we also have a Duty Doctor every day. The Duty Doctor will deal with emergencies only and have appointments if required.
If you have been waiting for more than 15 minutes to be seen, please report to reception. We aim to keep our patients informed of any time delays. The GP may have been called out on an emergency or dealing with an emergency.
On occasions, you may wish to speak to a clinician about something that may not require an appointment. You can book a telephone consultation with a clinician either on the day or in advance. If booking in advance then you will be offered a telephone consultation with our nurse practitioner.
With all telephone consultations, you will be called back at some point during that day, but we are unable to give an exact time so when booking your telephone consultation please provide us with a contact number that you will be available on all day. This can be a mobile or work number.
