Please may we remind patients that we are trying to protect our surgery population by minimising 'footfall' through the surgery. Do not drop prescriptions into the surgery, if you have patient access please use this. For those that have no computer or internet access please ask them to call the dispensary on 01544 230 302 - option 2 to order their medication.
You can collect your medication as normal and please do consider collecting for vulnerable or frail friends and neighbours.
To continue to safely staff the Dispensary, the decision has been made to temporarily change the Dispensary's opening hours.
The Dispensary will now be open to patients from 9am - 1pm and 3pm - 5pm, these hours will be effective until further notice.
We will be contacting patients whose booked appointments will be effected, therefore if you do not receive a call from us it is likely that your appointment is still active. The situation is rapidly changing and we are grateful for your patience at this difficult time.
You can now use the internet to book appointments with a GP and request repeat prescriptions for any medications you take regularly.
Being able to see your record online may help you to manage your medical conditions. You can also access this from anywhere in the world should you need medical treatment whilst on holiday. This service can be accessed from you home PC, Tablet or Mobile.
Kington Medical Practice can now enable patients to view Lab Results online and have 24/7 access to health advice and online query forms, please contact us if you would like to have the Lab Results feature enabled on your account.
Patient Access and proxy access
A unique new feature has been released for Patient Access. You can now request to act as a proxy for children, relatives and dependants that you care for using Patient Access.
This enables a parent, family member or carer to act on behalf of the patient with their access tailored accordingly. The proxy feature has gone through rigorous analysis to ensure there are no data privacy risks.
Appointment booking, repeat medication requests, messaging and, where applicable, access to medical records, can easily be accessed by the proxy once a relative or person has been linked.
Please ask the Reception Team for more information or to register for proxy access.
If the relative or person you wish to act on behalf of is at a different practice to yourself, you can ask your relative’s GP Practice to register you for proxy access.
What information do I need to provide to act on behalf of someone?
When the GP Practice registers you for proxy access, you will need to provide your identification (ID) to establish you are the person that you say you are. Please check with the practice regards the type of ID they require.
A legal basis will also be required. If the relative or person you wish to act on behalf of is aged over 11 years, consent from them for the proxy access must be provided to the Practice and recorded in either:
- Verbal consent to the GP witnessing the consent.
- Written consent. A signed consent form, or a letter from the relative or person, requesting that you are given proxy access. This form should also detail the level of access you will require, if you are uncertain about what access you require, please discuss this with the GP Practice. Examples include: access to book appointments and order repeat prescriptions only; or access to book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, view the patient’s medical records, share or download the patient’s medical records.
Herefordshire One Record
Sharing records to improve patient care in Herefordshire
Herefordshire patients will soon benefit from an improved digital sharing system called Herefordshire One Record.
This will enable sharing of patient records between GPs and other health care professionals in the county to ensure patients get the best possible treatment when needed.
Patient information is often only available within a single organisation. Herefordshire One Record will allow health care professionals in multiple organisations in Herefordshire to view patient records.
The following organisations will soon have access to the electronic systems to share information:
- Herefordshire GP Practices
- Wye Valley NHS Trust
- St Michael’s Hospice
- Taurus Healthcare (for extended and out-of-hours GP services)
In addition, 2gether NHS Foundation Trust will also have access to view the records shared by the above organisations. (Note: 2gether will have access to view the records shared by the above organisations but will not be sharing any records through Herefordshire One Record).
Herefordshire One Record will enable staff of these organisations to access up-to-date records that are held by the other organisations.
It means that medical staff involved in patient care (whether they are a GP, Practice Nurse, District Nurse or a Consultant at the hospital) can make more informed choices about the care and medical treatment needed by a patient. It also means that patients won’t need to explain their medical history or conditions each time they see a different health care professional.
Through this new digital system the quality of patient care will be improved through not only the better coordination but reducing the time spent updating health records on different systems by clinical teams and having to request information from other health care providers.
It will assist with patient information being available in the right place at the right time and aims to help reduce admissions and readmissions and decrease duplicate testing. It will help our healthcare services in Herefordshire working in the most efficient ways possible.
Herefordshire One Record roll-out will start Mid-September 2019.

Online bookable Appointments
We now have a wider range of appointments available to be booked online. These will include, Blood tests, Smears and a number of Nurse practitioner appointments. We must make you aware that blood test appointments must only be made if a Practice Clinician or Hospital Consultant has requested for you to have your blood tested. Below is a list of some ailments that you can book to the see the Nurse Practitioner for:
- Infections such as chest, throat, ear and urinary tract (please bring a urine sample along to your appointment)
- Skin Complaints
- Insect Bites
- Mole checks
- New Occurrence of abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation
- All joint and muscle pains
- Allergic reactions not relating to medications
Nurse Practitioners are unable to deal with Smears, Vaccinations or Annual Birthday reviews.
