Prescriptions

The Surgery Dispensary are able to dispense acute and repeat prescriptions to all patients that live more than one mile from their nearest Pharmacy. A prescription that is issued during a consultation can be dispensed while you wait.

Patients that live within one mile of a Pharmacy will either have their prescription sent electronically to a Pharmacy or will be provided with a paper prescription. Patients that collect their medication from a Pharmacy in Wales would require a paper prescription as pharmacies in Wales are unable to accept electronic prescriptions. A paper prescription can be taken to any Pharmacy.

Patients need to be aware that at times not all their medication is dispensed at the same time, while the dispensary make every effort to keep patients medication together, there are occasions when this does not happen and medication may become separated. We request all patients check they have all their items before leaving dispensary.

At times medications do go out of stock with our suppliers, instances where this occurs the patient will be provided with a paper prescription to take away to try other Pharmacies that hold a larger stock.
ANY REQUEST RECEIVED AS URGENT WILL BE DEALT WITH USING OUR URGENT MEDICATION LIST. THIS LIST HAS BEEN PROVIDED TO DISPENSARY BY THE SURGERY GP’S AND PHARMACIST. IF THE MEDICATION BEING REQUESTED AS URGENT IS NOT ON OUR URGENT MEDICATION LIST, THE USUAL THREE DAY RULE WILL APPLY.

PRESCRIPTIONS

When ordering repeat medication you must allow three FULL working days, excluding weekends and bank holidays. If you use our delivery service, please allow FIVE working days for delivery.

PRESCRIPTION CHARGES AND EXEMPTIONS

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS CHARGES

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.15
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £105.90
  • 3-month PPC: £29.65

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
